Pass Happy/Run Happy – Week 15

Ok everyone – best of luck in your playoff games. Sometimes you might need to sit an ok guy and swing for that upside fence. This week there are many who fit that bill, just read along!

Teams on Bye: NONE

QUARTBACKS

Derek Carr, OAK: I’m not sure what’s more surprising, that I’m selecting Derek Carr or that he’s still a Raider (for now?). Regardless, Gruden’s overhaul appears to be bubbling up with a bit more consistent play the past few weeks. NO, there is still a long way to go but Carr is averaging 22 points per game over the last month and has thrown 8 TDs to 2 INTs during that run. This week, he faces off against the Bengals, which has been a favorable matchup all year long.

Ownership: Yahoo 20%; NFL 4% & ESPN 10%.

Nick Mullens, SF: it’s time to hand it to Kyle Shanahan, and his staff: they can coach up some very serviceable NFL QB’s. Beathard seemed to have run out of steam, but he looked pretty good at times this season. Despite Mullens’ dud a few weeks back, he has now thrown for over 330 yards in back to back games with a pair of Eds in each. He’s facing Seattle at home, but he threw for 414 yards against them a few weeks ago. I wouldn’t expect a repeat but a 300 yard game seems to be in play here.

Ownership: Yahoo 7%; NFL 3% & ESPN 7%

RUNNING BACKS

Elijah McGuire, NYJ: this is the kind of guy who will show enough in this final month to translate into hype going into next season. He did it last year, then got hurt

Ownership: Yahoo 10%; NFL 3% & ESPN 4%.

Justin Jackson, LAC: two nice weeks followed by a dud when I selected him. But Gordon is still hurting and now Ekeler has stingers. I am picking him again this week because we’ve seen his potential and he’s going to get a decent number of touches, more than last week.

Ownership: Yahoo 51%; NFL 43% & ESPN 43%.

Damien Wilson, KC: something of a dart throw, but Hunt’s release and now injury to Ware leads to his inclusion. He’s got terrific top 20 (tho not top ten) potential this week, as the Chiefs have to get the position sorted for their playoff run. In other words: expect them to work him to see what they have.

Ownership: Yahoo 18%; NFL 3% & ESPN 14%.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Dante Pettis, SF: Along with the surge of Mullens at QB is Pettis at WR. He’s averaging 17 points per game the last 3 weeks which is good for being the #6 wideout during that time! I’m likely adding him in my big money local I play, to go with Fitz, Hilton, Watkins & David Moore, with a possible start over Fitzgerald. The rookie is hot, and has a decent matchup this week.

Ownership: Yahoo 46%; NFL 30% & ESPN 20%.

Curtis Samuel, CAR: he’s been a top 20 receiver since week 9, and had a nice 12 point showing in PPR formats this past week, his worst result in a month. The Panthers are a good team, he’s a good player and they want that playoff spot. Simple as that, he showed by owned, and likely started. It’s criminal he’s eligible for this column.

Ownership: Yahoo 31%; NFL 15% & ESPN 33%.

John Ross, CIN: finally beginning to emerge, Ross has 4 touchdowns in the last five games. The way is clear for him to get a solid # of targets now that Green is done. He also faces Oakland this week, and they’ve given up the most touchdowns to wide receivers this season. A bit boom or bust, but likely a boom this week.

Ownership: Yahoo 9%; NFL 3% & ESPN 15%.

TIGHT END

CJ Uzomah, CIN: a bit of a darling earlier this year, it took the uninspired QB play of Jeff Driskel to being dumping to this position on a regular basis. And it’s pretty regular. Like Ross above, the Oakland matchup is very good here as well.

Ownership: Yahoo 30%; NFL 3% & ESPN 30%.

TEAM DEFENSE

Detroit: a dirty secret of fantasy football is that the Lions will always have a defense that produces at some point during the season. Sometimes, it’s for most of a season, sometimes it’s like 2018: they’re streaky. Well, they’re in the middle of one of their streaks and now get Buffalo who ranks near the bottom in preventing team defensive points.

Ownership: Yahoo 20%; NFL 8% & ESPN 25%.
